Turning the problem into an advantage
ME Sitges Terramar Hotel
The edifice of Terramar suffered 2 renovations, 1 on top of the other and if normally a building would need to have 10 columns, this building had 20. The design challenge was to convert a problem into an advantage.
Every column is thought as a sculpture covered with two types of materials: gypsum and wicker. Half of the columns have been covered with white gypsum that brings freshness to the environment. Only one type of mold has been created, that has been mirrored in every column. As the joint has been removed by polishing, the result was a column that gives the impression of being a singular piece.
